WHAT DEITY DO YOU RESONATE WITH AND WHY?
Wow! Big question. I’m no Buddha, but the story of how he was tempted under the Bodhi tree by the demon Mara really speaks to me. Only by literally staying grounded in himself was he able to defeat the temptations and turn the seven demons into blossoms. I love that metaphor! I am constantly working to attain some form of growth and enlightenment in all aspects of my life, but it’s a struggle to stay grounded mentally and physically through life’s challenges. I have done a couple of paintings based on that idea.

For me it’s been a learning process and I have only recently begun to truly embrace and own my power as a woman after lots of mistakes. Now I surround myself with beautiful, positive women who support my growth and I work at passing that wisdom down to my daughter so that she has a greater understanding of her power early on. So, I would say I channel my inner Goddess by spreading love through art and by exploring the ways in which we connect to the Divine. There are a lot of voices right now trying to divide us and convince us that we are all separate and different, but those labels are complete fabrications. At the core we are all the same, no matter what race, religion, gender or sexual orientation and love is the common denominator. I believe the voice of love is louder than the voice of hate.
Ha! My Goddess Gift is also my Goddess Weakness! I am extremely sensitive and empathic, which makes me a caring and intuitive friend and partner. I literally feel all of the feels for all of the people in my life. But I have learned that the Big Feels are a drain on the soul without self-care, especially if you give them away indiscriminately.
When I was younger I used to test as an extrovert, but the more work I do on myself, the more I love being alone and introverting; meditating, painting, listening to music, doing yoga or reading. That quiet time when I get to re-group and re-charge is so important and I think a lot of people could use more slowing down and introspection.
Hmmm. I am torn between my sketchbook and my kindle — can I have both, please?
WHAT’S ON YOUR PLAYLIST WHEN YOU’RE CREATING MAGICK?
Oh man!!! Music is such a big part of my daily life and in some ways, it has saved me during dark times in my life. I almost always have a song in mind when I am working on a painting- sometimes a certain lyric will just catch me and I need to paint it. My music library is pretty schizophrenic- I’m really all over the place musically and there’s something for every mood (because I have a lot of those). But when I am painting, I tend to gravitate to more melodic bands like The Shins and Band of Horses. Vampire Weekend is in heavy rotation on any given day, much to my family’s dismay.
WHAT IS YOUR LATEST PROJECT?
“Mudras for Awakening The Five Elements” card deck published by US Games Inc.
WHY DID YOU WANT TO DO THIS?
Alison DeNicola (the author) and I clicked right from the start of the deck, but the first one was a technical learning process for me. This one felt smoother since I knew what to expect.
CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT ANY PLANS FOR FUTURE PROJECTS?
I’m working on some more prayer flag designs for Buddha Doma.
